Receptionist

SEIU Local 721 is a dynamic, and fast-growing organization recognized as one of the largest and strongest union of publicly funded employees in the nation. We have over 200 staff members covering 6 counties. Our more than 90,000 members provide public services in diverse fields, including health care, social services, special districts, private non-profits, libraries, courts, parks and recreation, public works and mental health in cities and counties throughout Southern California. Through grassroots organizing, identifying, and developing leaders within our Union, and organizing worker political power, we are on the front lines of holding government accountable, ensuring efficiency, tackling waste, and improving services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Receptionist reports directly to the Director of Member Connection and/or Member Connection Supervisor. Answers and transfers calls to appropriate departments or voicemail extensions. Greets visitors and guests; refers them to proper department. Receives deliveries and notifies addressee in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED:
• Maintain Information Directory Data;
• Notify staff of visitors’ arrival and direct them to appropriate personnel and meetings;
• Direct callers and route all general telephone inquiries, complaints, and emergency telephone calls to
proper staff;
• Sign for UPS/Fed Ex packages/deliveries, etc and notify appropriate recipient(s).
• Assist with small mailings as requested by the Membership Department;
• Comply with written policies and procedures regarding receipt of subpoenas;
• Verify and assist with membership status;
• Perform light clerical functions, including but not limited too; scanning, address changes, filing, data entry,
etc:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to communicate, work effectively and relate respectfully with a diverse membership and staff;
• Ability to meet and greet the public in person and by telephone in a courteous and professional manner;
• Experience in heavy telephone volume;
• Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail;
• Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Proficient in MS-Outlook, typing, and data entry;
• Ability to sit for long periods of time;

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
• Current hourly rate is $23.73 (entry) to $27.68 (10 years)
• Fully paid benefit package including medical, dental, vision and a generous life insurance.
• The Receptionist is an hourly OPEIU bargaining unit position subject to a staff union contract.
• Work hours may be between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., subject to department needs.
