LMU’s administration is breaking labor law, and we’re fighting back.

Our elected non-tenure track (NTT) faculty union Bargaining Team (BT) recently authorized filing Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against LMU’s admin for:

  • Stopping its promotion process for union NTT faculty.
  • Withholding regular merit-pay increases for full-time faculty in our unit.

These moves egregiously violate labor law and our rights as union members by:

  • Discriminating against us as union members. LMU continues its regular processes for promotions and merit increases for non-union NTT faculty, making it clear that we’re being singled out and denied opportunities for higher pay and advancement because we’re union.
  • Unilaterally changing our workplace practices without our input. The admin can’t change normal workplace practices — including those around merit pay and promotions — without our input. We’re union; we must negotiate first.

The two latest ULPs come on top of an NLRB charge we filed in the spring over the university’s attempt to intimidate our members by threatening a baseless lawsuit over displays of our union logo — the same logo we’ve used since we launched our union campaign in 2023!

We must stand against the university’s lawbreaking. When LMU violates our rights as union members, it’s hard to feel like they respect us, and it erodes trust at the bargaining table as the BT negotiates for our first contract. How can we feel the university is working with us in good faith when they violate our rights?

On top of the ULPs, the university continues to slow-walk bargaining, offering counter proposals at a glacial pace. When they do counter, their proposals are often status quo — sometimes just direct copies of current policies that don’t advance our pay, benefits, or working conditions.

Act Now. We can’t win a strong contract unless more NTT faculty members get involved in the fight. Here’s how:
