This summer we’ve made some progress in bargaining — reaching agreement on 23 articles. However, after many bargaining sessions — including multiple hours-long meetings this week and last — USD’s admin has refused to meet our elected Bargaining Action Team (BAT) where we need it to be on compensation and job security. We will meet with the university on Thurs., August 28, for another round of bargaining, and we hope USD will move to a reasonable position.
We’re also concerned that the university may unlawfully refuse to provide its regular fall wage increase to NTT faculty just as it did last year. We filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) over USD’s refusal to offer its normal pay increase to faculty last fall without bargaining with us first — a move that violated labor law. The NLRB is still reviewing the case.
Given all of this, it is clear we need to take collective action, up to and including a ULP strike this Fall. Members of the Contract Action Team (CAT) will reach out with more information, and we’ll be holding all-member meetings soon to discuss.
Questions or concerns? Talk to any CAT or BAT member or come to an upcoming all-member meeting.
