This past Monday August 10, hundreds of SEIU 721 COPE contributing members turned out to hear about how the 2024 voter approved Measure G will impact LA County workers and the County. SEIU 721 had the honor of being the first union selected to host this informational townhall. We spoke up, asked questions and engaged to ensure we are heard loud and clear with the County.

We were grateful to be joined by Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, the County’s Governance Reform Taskforce (GRTF) members, and Edward Yen from the Los Angeles County CEO’s office. Our President (and GRTF Member) David Green joined us to facilitate the conversation.

Measure G will bring major changes that will impact us and our fellow co-workers. Those changes include but are not limited to:
– Expansion of the number of LA County Board of Supervisors from five to nine.
-A new elected LA County CEO (the election will take place in 2028).
-Establishment of an independent Ethics Commission and an Office of Ethics Compliance, led by an Ethics Compliance Officer.

With the addition of a newly elected LA County CEO and the expansion of the LA County Board of Supervisors, SEIU 721 members have a powerful opportunity to expand our voice. We elect on our own bosses and by having a seat at the table as Measure G takes effect, we will fight to make sure we have a voice in the halls of power.
And when we fight, we win!
Stay tuned for more updates on Measure G.
