LA City Members: We Need Your Input

liftuplapeoplex350.jpgOver the past few years, LA City has cut jobs and outsourced our work to costly private contractors. City workers have felt the pain, but the public has suffered the most. Now, it takes 35 years to get around to trimming a tree in Los Angeles. Even when it gets done, the private contractors who do it use improper procedures that hurt our trees.

It’s time for a change.

Art-Sweatman80x80.jpg“Because of the efforts of SEIU 721 members, City Councilman Mike Bonin just submitted a motion asking for a careful review of the procedure for outsourcing tree trimming in LA. It’s not going to fix everything, but it’s a good start. All city leaders need to see that restoring city services means full funding and staffing for city work.”

What’s Next?

There’s an opportunity to restore and improve city services coming up. SEIU 721 members will start bargaining for our next contract soon. If you want to make the city stronger and protect our jobs, get involved today.

You’ll get a Bargaining Survey in the mail this week to help shape the proposals members will bring to the bargaining table. Please fill one out and make sure your co-workers do too. You can also fill out the Bargaining Survey online: https://www.seiu721.org/liftupla.php.

Make sure you’re on the Bargaining Team (get nominating petitions here) or the Contract Action Team to help secure the best agreement for our city, our families and our communities.
