LMU Student Newspaper’s Exec Board Urges Admin, Trustees to Return to the Bargaining Table with NTT Faculty

The Executive Board of LMU’s student newspaper, the Loyolan, urged the administration and board of trustees to return to bargaining with non-tenure track (NTT) faculty in an editorial published Tuesday, Oct. 14.

“The understanding of justice as ‘integrally connected to our lives of faith’ is central to the University’s mission as a Jesuit University,” the editorial says. “Catholic social teachings not only emphasize the dignity of work and workers’ rights but call us to stand in solidarity and community with one another. We believe that negotiating in good faith and respecting the desires of those faculty who choose to unionize is in line with these teachings.”

We applaud the Executive Board for its clear understanding of Catholic social teaching on the rights of workers and its commitment to collective bargaining!
