On the heels of multiple union actions throughout October, including packing city hall chambers last week, we’re proud to announce that we’ve reached a tentative agreement (TA) with the city on a new 2 ½ year contract.

The fight wasn’t easy. 

Throughout this year, we showed the City Council that we weren’t backing down from fighting for fair contract and kept city management’s feet to the fire, and it worked.

What Full Time Workers Won:

We’ve locked in a 7% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) over the life of the contract, an increase in the city’s healthcare contribution that gets us closer to fully paid Kaiser coverage, a new Juneteenth holiday, and the implementation of a classification and compensation study.

The classification and compensation study brings up more than half of our SEIU 721 member classifications to near the top of the market in pay. That means more than half of our union members will see an increase.

Thanks to the organizing and action of SEIU 721 members, we also secured: 

• Bilingual pay increases
• Standby pay increases
• Acting pay contract language clarifications
• Bereavement leave and vacation increases
• Classification specific premiums and certification pay

What Part Time Workers Won:

We’ve locked in a 6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) over the life of the contract, an adjustment to premium pay language to reinforce application to pension calculations, and the implementation of a classification and compensation study.

When Can I Vote?

Online TA ratification voting begins on Thursday, October 29th at 8AM and ends on Wednesday, November 4th at 11AM.

In person voting starts on Monday, November 2nd and ends on Wednesday, November 4th at 12PM.
