Ventura Clinic Workers Take Official Steps to Join SEIU 721

Workers at the satellite clinics say it’s only natural that they would have similar contracts to VCMC workers. After all, the just like with VCMC, the county funds the satellite clinics in its annual budget, owns the clinics’ licenses, owns all patient data, defines what work is performed at the clinics and reports clinic activities to state and federal authorities. In addition, clinic workers attend Ventura county employee orientations and receive training at VCMC, often right alongside VCMC workers.

The day after they filed their petition, the VCMC satellite clinic workers and SEIU members took their message directly to the Ventura Board of Supervisors. Workers told the Supervisors about the importance of using union contracts and partnership to set high quality patient care standards for Ventura County residents.

We love working with our patients. It’s a privilege to do work we love,” Matthew Deyling, a pharmacy technician at Sierra Vista Family Medical Center, told the supervisors.
Rosa Fernandez, a medical assistant at West Ventura Medical Clinic, also addressed the Board of Supervisors, telling them, 
“To know that we work next door to other Ventura health care workers who have the opportunity to create standards in their workplace is frustrating. We want to be active participants in our clinics just like them
.”
