Latino Caucus Members holding presents from toy driveAt the start of this year, the SEIU 721 Latino Caucus set an ambitious goal: collecting 500 toys for children in the Pico Gardens community. This annual tradition began in 2022, when SEIU 721 Executive Board member Lawrence Reyes suggested partnering with the Dolores Mission Church during a planning meeting. His proposal was enthusiastically embraced, and the toy drive became a cornerstone of the Caucus’s community outreach.

Tragically, Brother Lawrence passed away on December 31, 2022, before witnessing the joy this initiative brought to the children. To uphold his commitment to the community, the Latino Caucus continues this heartfelt tradition, striving to collect even more toys each year. This year, with the generous support of SEIU 721 members, the Caucus proudly delivered hundreds of toys to brighten the holidays for families in Pico Gardens.

The Latino Caucus, established in 1992, has a long-standing mission to organize, educate, and empower Latino labor movement leaders. It focuses on achieving power, respect, and social justice for the working class. Through the efforts of its members, the Caucus builds union strength, develops leadership, amplifies political influence, and drives meaningful community action.

Throughout the year, the Latino Caucus engages in various impactful activities, including attending labor conferences, supporting rallies, hosting distinguished guest speakers, screening culturally significant films, organizing toy drives, and celebrating Latino Heritage Month. Together, we honor our heritage, foster leadership, and make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s success. We look forward to an even bigger and brighter toy drive next year!
