Faculty at LMU and USD rally for justice and fair contracts

Faculty at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and the University of San Diego (USD) are taking a stand for fair union contracts and social justice. Non-tenure track (NTT) faculty and Visiting Assistant Professors (VAP) at LMU, along with NTT faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at USD, are demanding improved job security, fair wages, and stronger protections.

Prayer & Meditation Circle at LMU

On March 19, LMU’s NTT and VAP faculty held a silent prayer and meditation circle outside the campus provost’s annual address, calling for the university to engage in good-faith negotiations. Faculty, represented by SEIU 721, stood peacefully with signs reading “Fair Wages = Social Justice,” urging the administration to stop delaying negotiations and end union-busting tactics.

Rally for Fair Treatment at USD

On March 20, NTT faculty at USD’s CAS rallied with students, alumni, staff, and community supporters to advocate for fair treatment. The rally highlighted the need to protect immigrant and trans rights, diversity, and free speech on campus. Faculty called on the university to swiftly agree to a fair union contract that includes living wages, job security, and good benefits.

A Unified Call for Justice

Faculty at both universities remain united in their call for justice, urging their administrations to uphold social equity and fairness as contract negotiations continue.
