LA Community Supports Boots for Safety

animal-worker-safety_community-support-rally_lacounty_5-5-09.jpgWhen Animal Control Officers follow firefighters into a burn zone to rescue stranded pets, safety shouldn’t be an afterthought. That’s what Animal Service Workers represented by SEIU 721 and Long Beach community members told the County on May 5.

Despite hearing about the risks of working with aggressive dogs, 1,700-pound horses abandoned by their owners, and fire-country pet rescues, the Department of Animal Care and Control has said safety is not a primary concern and boots should not be standard issue.
What You Can Do:
Call Director of Animal Care and Control Marcia Mayeda at (562) 728-4610 and tell her:
“My name is__________. I am a Los Angeles County employee from the Department of _______. I support Los Angeles County Animal Control Officers in their effort to win BOOTS. Be responsible and do the right thing: provide them with the tools they need to stay safe.”
