Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas stopped in for a quick visit with the social workers who answer emergency calls to the child welfare hotline. Workers at the hotline answer between 12,000 and 16,000 calls every month.
Children’s Social Worker Hector Ruiz met with the Supervisor Wednesday, Sept. 22 when he briefly visited Department of Children and Family Services staff.
Ruiz said the visit was important “because it is the Board of Supervisor’s decisions, that ultimately affect the county children’s social workers, supervising children’s social workers and all other DCFS staff. The Supervisors’ decisions directly impact all aspects of the worker’s duties, workload and method of service.”
Hector and his colleagues are seeking a more in-depth, follow up meeting with Ridley-Thomas to dig deeper and to help solve some of the challenges in DCFS.
