SEIU Members Turn Out for School Board Candidate

Sanchez100.jpgSocial workers, sanitation workers, court reporters and other SEIU 721 members turned out by the busload to help LAUSD School Board candidate Luis Sanchez win the endorsement of the LA County Federation of Labor.
Sanchez, who is currently chief of staff to School Board Member Monica Garcia, needed two-thirds of County Fed delegates to vote for him in order to secure the endorsement, which is expected to be crucial in the May 17 election. With SEIU 721 members behind him, Sanchez won 75% of the vote.
“SEIU 721 member support was crucial in putting my candidacy over the top,” said Sanchez after the vote. “I look forward to representing the interests of working people on the school board.”
Rosie-Martinez_lacounty_80x80.jpgRetired Nurse Rosie Martinez was a vocal supporter of Sanchez. “I am proud of the solidarity we displayed tonight,” said Martinez. “Our children deserve the best possible chance to get a fair and equitable education, and Sanchez has a proven record that prepares him for the job.”
