San Bernardino Professionals Win Historic Deal!

We did it! After a year of organizing and action, we’ve secured a deal that begins the long process of restoring vital San Bernardino County services hobbled by attrition and short-staffing. Our tireless work as SEIU 721 members has paid off! Our San Bernardino Professionals’ Bargaining Team won one of the best contracts negotiated in years: One that includes pay raises and restorations, better medical and retirement benefits, new bonuses and allowances, an investment in public services and stronger grievance procedures to amplify the power of our voice on the job!

SEIU Local 721 and the County of San Bernardino have reached a Tentative Agreement on a new 3-year contract. Click here to download a summary of our Tentative Agreement! Highlights and breakthroughs of this historic contract include pay raises and restorations, greater medical and retirement benefits, additional bonuses and allowances, and real investments in public services and the power of our voice on the job! Our Bargaining Team recommends a YES vote!


Highlights and Breakthroughs

● 7% salary increase over the course of the three-year contract:

  2% raise, as of July 9, 2016
  2% raise, as of July 22, 2017
  3% raise, as of July 22, 2018

● 7% salary restoration to all members on July 9, 2016, reversing previous pay cuts.

● 7% retirement pick-up effective July 9, 2016.

● 2% longevity pay for members with 15 years of service as of December 2016.

● Additional top step to all classifications at 2.5 percent on July 23, 2016.

● Increases in shift differentials: $1 to $1.20 for Evening; $1.30 to $1.70 for Nighttime. 

● Equity increases for select classifications.

● Increases in medical subsidies.

● Vacation cash out of 60 hours in any employee uses 80 in the previous year.

● $1,000 retention bonus in 2019 for SSPs, Psychiatrists, and other high attrition classes.

● $1,000 professional allowance in year 2 for all members in the unit. 

● Stronger grievance procedures.

Online Ballot

You may vote using a paper ballot, or you may vote online. Online ballots may be cast between Friday, June 24, and Thursday, June 30. Online voting is available until 10:00 PM on June 30.

To vote you will need your San Bernardino County Employee ID number. Your username is your Employee ID number and the passcode is your Employee ID number plus the first 5 letters of your last name.

For example: if your name were, Rick Nelson, and your ID number were 12345, you would type 12345 in the box under Employee ID, and 12345nelso in the box under Election Passcode.

If your employee ID starts with a letter, please substitute this letter with the corresponding number:  A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=6, G=7, H=8, I=9, J=10, K=11, L=12, M=13, N=14, O=15, P=16, Q=17, R=18, S=19, T=20, U=21, V=22, W=23, X=24, Y=25, Z=26.

For instance, if your name were, Jane Doe, and your ID number were M4258, you would type 134258 in the box under Employee ID, and 134258doe in the box under Election Passcode.

If you don’t know your San Bernardino County Employee ID number, please call the SEIU 721 Member Connection: 1-877-721-4968.

Only votes from SEIU 721 members of the San Bernardino County Professional Bargaining Unit members will be counted. If you are not yet a full, card signing member of SEIU 721 and would like to vote, you may vote provisionally. Your vote will be held until your completed membership application has been received. SEIU 721 will follow up with you regarding your status right away.

Paper Ballot

You may vote using a paper ballot, or you may vote online. Paper ballots may be cast between Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 30. All ballots must be received by 12 PM on June 30.

Clearly mark YES or NO on your selection. Unmarked ballots, or those with more than one marking will be deemed invalid. All votes must be received by 12:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Ballots may be cast in person, hand delivered, or mailed by US Post to: 6177 River Crest Dr., Suite B, Riverside, CA 92507. Ballots not received by noon on June 30 will not be counted!
