SEIU 721 Statement on Charlottesville

The violence and hate espoused by the white supremacists behind Saturday’s deadly terror attack in Charlottesville strike at the very heart of what it means to be an American. SEIU 721 members condemn this horrific violence in the strongest terms, and our hearts are with those families grieving the injury or loss of a loved one.

For decades, SEIU members have been on the front lines of the fight to end structural racism in our communities, yet Saturday’s attack serves as a terrible reminder that our country’s history of white supremacy and racially motivated violence is still painfully present. We will continue our fight to break down the systemic racism still plaguing our communities and work together to shape a brighter, stronger future where all working families can prosper free from violence, hate, and intimidation.

In Unity,

Bob Schoonover
President, SEIU Local 721
