URGENT! Dr. Laura Trejo of the LA County Aging & Disabilities Department is being evaluated. Send in your comment TODAY!

This is a message from your Union, SEIU 721, informing you that Dr. Laura Trejo – the Director of the Aging & Disabilities Department – will have a performance evaluation at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Closed Session on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Dr. Trejo’s performance review comes following a comment by Hector Ochoa, a Commissioner on the LA County Commission on Disabilities:

“As a Commissioner on the Commission on Disabilities, I do not believe the Commission nor the department is in a positive direction to [be] appropriately serving disabled constituents, let alone their commissioners. The Commission has inaccessible meeting spaces, no appropriate audio/video equipment for hybrid capability, no accommodations offered in writing when hosting public webinars, social media content is inaccessible, etc. It’s been about 3 years since the transition of this commission and this department continues to fall short in meeting its purpose.”

Dr. Trejo’s performance evaluation serves an opportunity for those of us affected by her administration to submit public comments opposed to her department’s management and to add supporting statements regarding Dr. Trejo’s overall negative influence on the department. If you have been negatively impacted by Dr. Trejo’s administration – or if you wish to voice concerns regarding her overall negative influence on A&D – please add a public comment to the record.Be sure to select CS-6 as the agenda item before submitting your statement.

As indicated on the LA County Board of Supervisors’ webpage, your public comment must be received no later than one business day prior to the meeting by 4 PM to ensure that your comment is accessible to the public and the Board. This means your comment must be sent by 4 PM on Monday, July 28, 2025 – which is TODAY.

As many of us know, our Union has expressed serious concerns over the disappointing tenure of Dr. Laura Trejo. Her performance has been lacking in many ways, and her management style has had an overall negative impact on the department as a whole. She has not used her position to improve conditions for those of us working at the department – nor has she demonstrated a willingness to negotiate with our Union in good faith. Accordingly, Dr. Trejo has been the target of a previous “March on the Boss” campaign by our Union.

Now, given the criticism expressed by Commissioner Hector Ochoa, Dr. Trejo clearly is falling short as a manager from various perspectives – from ours at the Union, from at least one of her very own Commissioners, and arguably from the public at large. After all, they obtain services from us, and they rely on the Commission to participate in the democratic process; to guarantee that their unique perspectives are taken into account; and to ensure that their needs are addressed.

As such, we strongly encourage those of you in our Union who have been negatively impacted by Dr. Trejo’s tenure to express your concerns directly to the Board of Supervisors by adding your public comment TODAY to the official record.

This should also apply to other failing department heads like the one at JCOD and DEO. Leadership failure at every level there please put them on your radar since they rely on contractors for staffing! Please add them to this and make the Board aware!
