LA County has a pattern and history of contracting out good Union jobs. SEIU 721 has been in the fight and will not stop. One of those contractors is Maximus, a national organization that the Department of Public Social Services contracts with for GAIN services. These are non-Union workers, doing the same work as Union members.
On Wed., Jan. 14, 2026, our Union began a negotiation process with DPSS to start bringing back some of these jobs. These negotiations will be ongoing throughout the year. They will impact over 100 currently non-Union contracted employees. They also will impact our represented Union members, who will have opportunities to transfer to new County office locations.
This is excellent news because it illustrates vividly the power of our Union when we are persistent and united. Remember: It was SEIU 721 that shined a light on just how widespread contracting out is at LA County – and how detrimental it is. It was SEIU 721 that kept up the pressure to fight to get jobs that became non-Union to potentially become good Union jobs again.
This is what we at SEIU 721 call The Union Difference. It makes ALL the difference!
So, if you get strange correspondence from right-wing extremists like the Freedom Foundation trying to trick you into dropping your Union membership, don’t be fooled. If you see something, report it to SEIU 721 Member Connection at (877) 721-4YOU.
Don’t fall for the head fake that tricks you into dropping your membership. STAY UNITED. STAY UNION STRONG. PROTECT UNION JOBS. And never forget: TOGETHER, WE WIN!
P.S. Do you know someone who is not a Union member? Just forward them a link to this web page and tell them to CLICK THIS LINK. It goes to go to a web page that takes them through the steps necessary to become an official member of SEIU 721.
