The SEIU 2010 Negotiating Committee has submitted initial proposals to commence bargaining for a new contract with the County of Ventura.
After agreeing last year to accept a 3% shift in the cost of the VCERA retirement benefits, the SEIU negotiators are determined to hold the line this year to protect paychecks from further erosion. Our first bargaining session will be on Sept. 27.
Key Bargaining Issue: Health Care Costs
Ventura County Health Care Plan premiums will increase by 4.4% in January. SEIU members are determined to get the County to do its part so that employees – many of whom are already living from paycheck to paycheck – will not continue to see their standards of living decline.
“There
will be no more takeaways. We know health care premiums are going up
again in January. The County needs to contribute more” said AC Carbajal, Ventura County Bargaining Committee Chair/Supervising Environmental Health Specialist.
