Durazo sways COPE with worker-focused plan for LA Board of Supervisors.

On February 27, our members came together for SEIU’s 721 COPE Town Hall meeting to meet State Senator Maria Elena Durazo, who is running to replace Hilda Solis as District 1 LA County Supervisor and create a plan for building worker power in Los Angeles.

LA County’s 1st District needs a strong leader in the wake of the Palisades and Eaton fires that devastated communities in the district, destroying thousands of structures and displacing residents.

Durazo made a strong case for why she’s the best choice for union workers. She’s worked arm-in-arm with our union to pass LA’s Living Wage ordinance, create statewide protections for renters and win the nation’s first statewide minimum wage for healthcare workers

Before her election to the California State Senate, Durazo served as the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and as head of UNITE HERE Local 11, which represents restaurant, hospitality and casino workers.
