In a big win for SEIU 721 Ventura Superior Court Interpreters, a new side-letter agreement signed on February 10, 2025, delivers a bonus and a boost in hourly wages — bringing their pay to parity with neighboring counties.

The new side-letter agreement is an add-on to  the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between our union and the Superior Court of California.

Effective February 2, 2025, the agreement raises interpreter compensation to $48.66 per hour. In addition, interpreters employed in this classification as of January 18, 2025, will receive a one-time bonus payment of $3,000, to be issued with the February 21, 2025, paycheck.

This move corrects a longstanding disparity in pay compared to interpreters in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Los Angeles counties that has hampered retention and recruitment efforts.

SEIU 721 members’ collective action secured fairer wages by highlighting the essential role interpreters play in providing access to justice for vulnerable county residents. With the current contract expiring at the end of September 2025, union representatives plan to return to the bargaining table this year to build on their big win.

This is a big win for Ventura Superior Court interpreters that corrects a longtime pay disparity.
