Statement by Bob Schoonover on Lack of Criminal Charges Against Officers Involved in Shooting of Jacob Blake
(LOS ANGELES, CA) – SEIU 721 stands with our brothers and sisters in labor, social justice groups and Black Lives Matter in a call for justice after the Kenosha County District Attorney announced he will not move forward with charges against any officers involved in the shooting of Jacob Blake.
We demand justice, equality and accountability for Black lives in our country – lives like those of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Jacob Blake because Black Lives Matter. We deserve to be safe in our own neighborhoods and our Black sisters and brothers need to be afforded that same protection by law enforcement and under our judicial system.
We cannot rest until our judicial system acts to confront systemic racism in our society, economy and workspaces. The people must demand elected officials at every level of America root out white supremacy from the ranks of law enforcement, not just with heartfelt words but with significant policy and personnel changes.
