LA County Members to Vote on Contract Extension

In the midst of a tough economy…

You can vote to extend the LA County Contract with more money for health care.

The economy is in a downturn and the public sector is shedding jobs.

The LA County Bargaining Policy Committee (BPC), an elected body comprised of county employees, sought a proactive agreement with the county to provide more money for health insurance, extend peace of mind to SEIU 721 members, and preserve jobs and services.

Now you can vote on the one-year contract extension.

Your elected bargaining teams recommend a “YES” vote.

Key provisions of the contract extension proposal:

  • Health insurance: A hallmark of our contract has been quality health coverage. The proposal includes a 7.2% increase in Options contributions for 2012.

  • Threats to privatize public service are real. Recently, we have seen it in our libraries. A newly established committee would help us keep services public, not for-profit, and available to all.
  • Cap to Horizons Deferred Compensation plan. We identified an area of cost savings that will help preserve jobs.
The proposal includes a temporary cap on County contributions and temporarily reduces the employer match to 2% from the current 4%. In July 2012, the current cap and County match levels would be restored.
  • All other contract provisions remain unchanged except for the changes related to a one-year extension. Our contract would now expire Sept. 30, 2012.

If you have not received a ballot by Nov. 18, or if you misplace your ballot, you may request a duplicate ballot by calling the Member Resource Center at 877-721-4968

Duplicate ballot requests will be accepted through Nov. 23. Completed ballots must be received at the SEIU 721 office by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
