Inland Members Collect Toys-Food for Needy Families

web450x300_xmas_inland.jpgAs the sun peaked out under retreating storm clouds, the SEIU 721 City of Riverside chapter teamed up with Riverside County members, IBEW Local 47 and the Riverside Police Officers Association for a joint union canned food and toy drive that concluded with a fun Holiday Barbecue on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Over the past month, donation boxes were placed in worksites all over the city and county. This is the third year the Chapter has taken on a leadership role in helping the Riverside community during the holidays.

With an abundance of toys and food collected, a visit from Santa and the grill going, workers and their families enjoyed the day at Ryan Bonaminio Park in Riverside. The toys will be distributed to Olive Crest, an organization serving the Inland Empire that is dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating and educating at-risk children and preserving families. The canned and non-perishable foods will be taken to Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service.
