The County of Ventura has been contracting out good County jobs for many years. Since 2019, contracting out tripled! Those are jobs that could have been filled by our County members and/or those resources could have gone to existing members to help them better serve our communities.
How much is the County spending on Contracting Out?
Every Department contracts out a massive portion of their budget. These three departments are the largest contracting out culprits for the last audited fiscal year (2024).
Below are some sample rate comparisons between County member hourly rates and those of contractors. We didn’t get enough information from the County to look at every contract/position, but in most instances, the County would save more money using SEIU job classifications.
