Working Towards Workplace Violence Prevention
State authorities responded to demands from healthcare workers for new rules that will protect them from violent attacks on the job, with the Cal/OSHA Standards Board adopting a worker petition that will make California’s workplace safety standards for health care settings the strongest in the nation. After numerous attempts were denied in the 1990s, this victory comes at a much needed time and will redefine what it takes to have a safe and secure workplace in this day.
Palm Springs Bargaining Update: Moving Forward, Members Review Healthcare Options
The SEIU 721 bargaining team and Palm Springs management have held several productive bargaining sessions over the past two weeks. The last session was held on Tuesday, May 20. SEIU 721 researchers produced a deep financial report on the City’s finances and the bargaining team is analyzing those findings.
LA City Members: Update on Dependent Coverage in Flex
For employees eligible for Flex benefits, LA City is announcing the 2014 Dependent Eligibility Verification program. The program is designed to ensure that all dependents enrolled in Flex health plans are actually eligible for coverage. Over 1,000 People in Need Treated at Riverside Health Fair
More than 1,000 Inland Area residents came to 3rd Annual LULAC Community Health Fair on Saturday, Feb. 22, many of them seeking relief from chronic pain. For those who arrived early they received free dental care, medical check-ups, vision and hearing tests and other services that they couldn’t normally pay for.
Riverside County Law Library Members Unanimously Ratify New Contract
SEIU 721 began negotiations with Riverside County Law Library management for a new contract almost one year ago. Instead of accepting a status quo, long-term contract, the bargaining team committed themselves to winning important gains in wages and healthcare benefits, which would be competitive with other public service workers
Riverside Community Health Fair Set for Feb. 22
The 3rd Annual LULAC Community Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 2060 University Ave., Riverside.
This is the second year SEIU 721 has helped sponsored this great community event, which helps those in need get free medical, dental, and vision care. Volunteers are needed to help with many different duties, such as patient check-ins.
