Under a canopy of date palms and light clouds, SEIU 721 Inland Area members held an information and public education booth at the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival this past weekend. As photographs of Inland workers fluttered in the light breeze, members handed out posters reminding people of the great strides that have been made in the workplace due to the struggle and commitment of union members.

SEIU 721 began negotiations with Riverside County Law Library management for a new contract almost one year ago. Instead of accepting a status quo, long-term contract, the bargaining team committed themselves to winning important gains in wages and healthcare benefits, which would be competitive with other public service workers
SEIU 721 Inland Area members have endorsed Riverside County prosecutor Michael A. Hestrin for the office of District Attorney. The countywide election is June 3, 2014. Mail ballots go out May 5.
SEIU 721 City of Beaumont members in the General Unit and Public Safety Support Services Unit have both unanimously ratified new two-year agreements.

I attended the Jan. 15 LA/OC Cities and Districts Stewards’ and Leaders’ Council meeting at SEIU Local 721. As an LA City member from MOU 8, which joined SEIU 721 a few years ago, I am always seeking opportunities to learn more about my job as a steward.
The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival runs from Feb. 14 – 23 at the Indio fairgrounds. This is the first year SEIU 721 is helping to sponsor this annual event and we will have an SEIU 721 member booth inside the fairgrounds on Saturdays and Sundays, Feb. 15 – 16 and Feb. 22 – 23 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
The 3rd Annual LULAC Community Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 2060 University Ave., Riverside.
This is the second year SEIU 721 has helped sponsored this great community event, which helps those in need get free medical, dental, and vision care. Volunteers are needed to help with many different duties, such as patient check-ins.
