VOTE-BY-MAIL – Ballots are due June 4, 2013

SEIU 721 members who live in Riverside will vote on Measure A in a vote-by-mail election by June 4, 2013. Measure A would allow the publicly owned water utility to continue to transfer a fixed percentage of funds into the City’s general fund. This money goes toward the essential services that SEIU 721 members provide, like 311 call center representatives, mini-bus drivers who transport seniors and the disabled, and graffiti removal programs that help keep buildings clean. A Yes vote will maintain these and other services that are vital to the community and to in protecting member’s jobs.

The money transfers to the general fund have been going on for almost a 100 years, but recent legislation requires such action to be affirmed by voters.

If Measure A fails, the city manager has said up to 168 workers will lose their jobs.

places to live: graffiti education programs to keep our neighborhoods free of graffiti, clean streets, well-maintained parks and safe neighborhoods. Now all the progress we have made is at risk. I’m urging all Riversiders to Vote Yes on Measure A. We need to protect quality public services, protect jobs and keep Riverside moving forward.”
– Frank Corral, Graffiti Education Coordinator

Protect Services, Protect Local Jobs

If Measure A fails, the city manager says he will have to cut jobs, including all school crossing guards, half the graffiti removal staff, 311 call center staff, and fire emergency medics. Senior programs, animal control services and children’s swim programs can also expect massive cuts (see Press-Enterprise graphic below).
