Monterey Park Workers Keep Fire Department Local

FF3-300x158.jpgOn July 2, the people of Monterey Park voted overwhelmingly to keep the city’s fire department intact by defeating Measure FF.
Over 64 percent of voters rejected the effort to contract out fire services to LA County.
SEIU Local 721 members worked with the Police Officers’ Association and community allies to keep the fire department local. Critical support also came from U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu and former State Assemblyman (now LA Community College Trustee) Mike Eng.
“This is a major victory for Monterey Park city workers and all residents. It means there won’t be any unexpected service cuts or cost increases. Our families will remain safe.”
-Chris Reyes, City of Monterey Park Building Trades Technician
