UPDATE: Oct. 16, 2013

SEIU 721 Members fought back and CVWD management dropped its unfair healthcare voucher plan. But the fight isn’t over, they have now proposed a plan that could more than double costs for some workers.

CVWD workers live and work in the Coachella Valley.

These SEIU 721 members deliver safe drinking water for residents and irrigation services for farms and businesses, promote water conservation, provide cost-effective high quality sanitation, wastewater and storm drain services across the entire Valley.

SEIU 721 members are currently in contract negotiations with the district, that is attempting to take away health care benefits from these hard working families.

It is crucial for the workers and their families to stand up for fairness, to protect their families, and the economic vibrancy of the region.

Now is the time for the community to also stand with them.

“We stand with the workers who deliver critical services to California communities and call upon the Board to continue its proud tradition in recognizing the economic benefits we all receive as a result of paying the workers of the CVWD a decent family-sustaining wage and providing them with solid, reliable cost-effective health benefits for themselves and their families – as the District has always done.” – Hon. Anthony Rendon, Hon. V. Manuel Perez and Hon. Ben Hueso

“…we hope you will honor the work and the sacrifices of these critical workers and bargain a fair contract that maintains family benefits.” – Charlie Ara, Chair Palm Desert Greens Democratic Club
