We did it! LA County contract ratified by overwhelming YES vote.

The votes are in. The ballots have been counted. Now, it’s official – we have ratified our LA County contract with an overwhelming YES vote.

WE DID IT!

We can expect our Year 1 bonuses to arrive within 45 days of our contract’s ratification.

This historic contract campaign has been an incredibly long journey for so many of us .. and it began well before today’s vote count. The path was long but invigorating, unifying and rewarding:

• We met as a union last Fall to prepare for bargaining on inequities and other contract items.

• We negotiated for many months – filing at least 42 Unfair Labor Practice violations after repeated law-breaking by LA County management.

• We upped the ante by holding Practice Pickets at our union headquarters and at various worksites.

• We took the plunge and went on an incredible two-day ULP Strike that shut down LA County.

• We engaged in civil disobedience at Fifth and Figueroa Streets during our ULP Strike – and afterward directly inside the Board of Supervisors chambers.

• We held follow-up actions at worksites throughout LA County and at Supervisors’ district offices.

Then we kept up the pressure at the bargaining table until we got a contract that delivered tangible gains. Today, that contract is ours – and we can declare VICTORY.
