LA County bargaining teams engaged in intense negotiations on Wednesday and Thursday of last week with Los Angeles County; although we made great strides in the right direction we still have a last push this week.
On Tuesday hundreds of LA County members descended on the Hall of Administration to demand a fair contract that respects our work.
In support of our fellow nurse, Miss Colorado, we nurses wear more than a stethoscope. We wear the concerns, welfare and well-being of our patients, community and profession. As LA county nurses, we are patients’ advocates; we take care of our vulnerable populations, uninsured and underinsured, underserved and private sector patients.
In our “VIEW” we provide vital services to our clients and to the community and are certainly not “just a nurse.”

As flu season approaches, The Partnership for Quality Care joined the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Department of Public Health and healthcare workers represented by SEIU Local 721 to stress the importance of getting immunized against influenza.
On Labor Day hundreds of SEIU 721 members, families and community allies, marched in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara to celebrate all that is good and strong about being in a union. Other groups held picnics and rallies in celebration of the work we have achieved, and the challenges we have before us.
What we are asking for is indispensable to continue doing the work we do and is respectful to our profession. We’re going to continue fighting for a fair deal and keeping DCFS Social Workers informed on our process and progress at the bargaining table.
We’re putting the call out to all Bargaining Committee Members, all Stewards, all Activists, and all CAT Teams for a very important contract update meeting and BBQ on Saturday, July 25th at SEIU Local 721.
There are never enough hours in the day to finish all the work diligently, so every CSW who logs into their computer system during non-regular working hours must also first submit a DCFS 158 form. SCSW’s who sign field itineraries for CSW’s outside of regular hours, must also have these CSW’s submit a form 158 for the overtime.
L.A. County will only achieve a consolidation plan that’s equitable, smart and fair by collaborating with the staff that’s on the frontline delivering these medical services.
Starting this month, official L.A. County packets containing a verification letter will begin arriving in the mail. The verification letter will indicate the type of documentation required to ensure your dependents continue receiving their coverage.
