the pain.
Members have shared stories of their concerns and
hardships. For some, it has been a decision between making a house payment or putting food on the table for our children.”

  1. I really like how the BOS ignored her during her speech. They kept looking around and tried not to pay attention. I bet they will pay attention when we dont come to work on the 31st.

  2. Can we be sure to picket the front of the District Attorney’s building on Tuesday? I like the idea of blocking the driveway so the Deputy DAs must cross the picket line while seeing the desperate stikers just trying to make a living. I’ll be there on the line! See you all on Tuesday.

  3. What a display of apathy watching those Supes and Ms. Walls and Mr. Parrish deflect direct eye contact with the SEIU representative.
Mr. Benoit, SEIU walked for you and helped you get elected. And you want SEIU to continue to be abused by this sham process? Why must SEIU balance the budget, while Management continues to grow and get richer? Come to my house and watch me balance my checkbook – I’ll show you how it works. All the expensive managers and “Confidential” employees – knock them into SEIU see the rats flee the fire. If you give them a choice, they would pick the RCDDA, not SEIU. I would. Like I said, I’m embarassed by our BOS.

  4. Do we really need Larry Parrish back? Double dipping is okay with th Board?
Why wasn’t J. Orr promoted to the CEO position? If he’s not capable, what’s he still doing here? Ms. Olivier is in way over her head as well, yet she’s still employed by the county. Is this how the County retains it’s best people? She should make her retirement “Official”. What about our Electeds? Can’t they speak up? Or is it politics as usual? Let’s see how many Supes and Execs come to work on Tuesday.
MAKE SOME NOISE ! MAKE SOME NOISE !

  5. I was told by a friend who is in DPSS that LIUNA members are being told they will be given AWOP if they call in sick on the 31st. Is that even legal?

  6. I noticed the same disrespect the BOSrs gave the Rep.
They all are a waste of space and I say if they expect respect, then show an example of respecting your own employees. We (employees) want change, then it’s up to us not to re-elect any of the BOSrs or we will go through this again and again.

  7. We need to focus on the fact that the County mismanagages public funds. We also need to petition for a grand jury inquiry into unethical practices of Olivier and MacArthur; clearly they have violated to Riverside County Code of Ethics and deserved to be fired immediately!

  8. @ Striker:

People avoid eye contacts when they are being dishonest to their conscience; they just do it subconsciously.

  9. I just watched the video in which the Rvsd. Co. BOS disrespected our fellow SEIU 721 member. This is a perfect example of why we are where we are today – LACK OF LEADERSHIP at the highest level.

SEIU 721 members – we can not lower ourselves to their level. We must stand strong and model the way for our BOS. They need us to show them what real leadership looks like. As we fight for fairness, we must maintain our core values and remember everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. This is not hard for us, we do it every day.

  10. I won’t be reporting to work on the 31.
As far as I am concerned Buster can do my job….go right ahead Buster….and make sure you do it for “yesterday”…the deadline is always “yesterday”.
Oh! also, Buster…Take my pay too…Oh! by the way, try to live your life on my pay…..I know you can, after all we county emplyoees make too much money…..oops, I am not a DA or Confidential….but still take my pay, please take it!

  11. Always remember the BOS are the 1%. I gotta tell you I’m shocked by the number of SEIU members that are NOT going to participate in the strike. I know some are living on the financial edge but the others have their noses attached directly to mangement and the county’s a$$. What ever! Power to the people and remember, we are not only SEIU union members, WE ARE THE 99%.

  12. County H.R put out an SEIU update memo discouraging employees from attending the strike and also stating that employees need to follow policy and call in if they are not gonna show up for work or face disciplinary action…so what, do I call in and leave a message stating I was feeling a lil “Strikey” today and won’t be in? The memo is repulsive and made me nauseous! See ya on the picket line!

  13. I’m in the process of foreclosure as we watch managers drive a county car to “save gas and wear and tear on his car”. This is not fair to us who are non Manager/Confidential who have to drive our own car and pay for our own gas.How many other managers/confidential, non union employees are Barbara providing company cars through fleets service. We have to pay for gas, vehicle maintenance and put wear and tear on our car why cant he?

I agree Barbara needs budgeting classed but she also needs management classes. During this hard time she spent money with an expensive out side company because one of the managers husband worked as a consultant to the company. He came up with a idea that HR needs a committee now called Quad Red Executive committee to work on moral builders.

  14. Yes, it is legal. If you strike, you don’t get paid and are AWOP. You can not use vacation or sick time. I think the Union passed this information on in prior notifications.

  15. DO THE BOS REALLY THINK WE ARE ABLE TO LIVE OFF WHAT THEY THINK IS FAIR? WE ALL HAVE GROWING EXPENSES…WITH DECREASING PAY. I GET MY CHECK EVERY TWO WEEKS AND DO NOT FEEL COMPENSATED AT ALL OR THAT MY WORK MEANS ANYTHING. I LOVE WHAT I DO…BUT I TAKE TIME FROM MY FAMILY TO DO IT. AND IF IT MEANS EVERY TWO WEEKS TO CHOOSE BETWEEN MY MORTGAGE AND BUYING FOOD FOR MY FAMILY…I WILL STRIKE!! SEE YOU ALL AT THE PICKET LINE!!
